Travel is on modern eco-friendly, air conditioned coaches and buses featuring reclining seats with foot and head rests, with some long distance bus and coach services having on board washroom/toilet facility. All regional and long distance bus services do stop regularly for comfort and refreshment breaks.

Some InterCity bus services in the North and South Islands, connect with Cook Strait ferry services that operate between Wellington in the North and Picton in the South Island and the famous
TranzAlpine train.

InterCity operates the Starlighter overnight coach services between Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Taupo, Palmerston North and Wellington connect with Cook Strait ferry services operating between Wellington in the North Island and Picton in the South Island. The Starlighter night services features reclining seats with foot and head rests, individual reading lights and air conditioning controls, onboard toilet/washroom facility and makes two refreshment/comfort stops on route.

With a range of combined bus and train tickets available, travel on the TranzAlpine train between Christchurch and Greymouth, with connecting bus services to and from Nelson, Murchison, Westport, Punakaki, Hokitika, Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.

Combined bus and Cook Strait ferry tickets are available for travel from Kaitaia, Kerikeri, Paihia, Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Taupo, Palmerston North or Wellington to Picton, Blenheim, Kaikoura, Christchurch or Nelson.

Bus tickets are available for travel to or from Auckland International Airport or to or from Christchurch International Airport.
